Attorney John T. Stamps, III
A native of Talladega County, Alabama, John T. Stamps III, or Ivan as his friends and family know him, is the son of John T. Stamps, Jr. of Alpine, Alabama, and Doris Cole Stamps of Bessemer, Alabama. Mr. Stamps graduated from Winterboro High School in 1988 where he excelled academically. Not only was Mr. Stamps one of the top students in his class, he was recognized nationally as one of the country’s top students. Mr. Stamps even accomplished a goal he set for himself in elementary school when he was accepted into several Ivy League universities, including Harvard University. One of Mr. Stamps’ greatest disappointments in life was not being able to attend Harvard University due to financial considerations.
GETTING STARTED
Mr. Stamps enrolled in the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa after completing high school. However, his first attempt at the collegiate experience was not as successful as his high school experience. After failing to assert himself academically and succumbing to the temptations that ensnare many African-American males, Mr. Stamps withdrew from school in 1993 and tried his hand at a sales career. Although a career in sales was not one of Mr. Stamps’ original goals, the experience he gained proved to be invaluable to his later success in his law career. A sales background provided him with a solid grasp of entrepreneurship and commercial relations as well as a keen understanding of the rewards and difficulties of operating a business.
Mr. Stamps over the next five years enjoyed a successful career in sales. Despite this success, Mr. Stamps’ lifelong dream of becoming a trial attorney weighed heavily on his mind. One thing that his parents had taught him as a child kept coming to mind. “To whomsoever much is given much is required.” Luke 12:48. Mr. Stamps realized that he had an obligation to pursue his dream; an obligation to himself and an obligation to those of previous generations who paved the way.
MADE IT HAPPEN!
Mr. Stamps re-enrolled in college the second time around with a renewed purpose. He graduated from Alabama A&M University magna cum laude in the summer of 1999 with a Bachelor of Science in Finance. Mr. Stamps then enrolled at the Paul Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University where he received his Juris Doctorate degree in May of 2003.
Mr. Stamps sat for and passed the Alabama Bar Exam. Once Mr. Stamps was admitted to the bar, he decided to enter private practice so that he could best serve the common man and his community. Mr. Stamps currently practices in the Black Belt Region of Alabama and other underserved communities; however, he will serve wherever and whenever he is called or needed.
FIGHTING THE GOOD FIGHT!
Mr. Stamps is licensed to practice in the States of Alabama and Georgia and is a member of the Alabama State Bar, the Georgia State Bar, the Alabama Lawyers Association, the Birmingham Bar Association, the Magic City Bar Association, and the Bessemer Bar Association. He is a member of the American Association for Justice, the Alabama Association of Justice, the Georgia Trial Lawyers’ Association, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the Alabama Criminal Defense Lawyers’ Association. Mr. Stamps is also an elected Bar Commissioner at Large for the State of Alabama and is a proud and active member of his community and the Mount Zion Christian Methodist Episcopal Church of Alpine, Alabama.
Mr. Stamps has dedicated himself and his firm to fight for the rights of the common man–rights and interests that are too often overlooked and trampled on in these days and times. With this thought in mind, Attorney Stamps adopted as the motto of The Black Belt Law Group, LLC the phrase: “Fighting the Good Fight.”
